ABCs of operant conditioning- A stands for

ABCs of operant conditioning, the B stands for:
Behaviour
ABCs of operant conditioning, the C stands for:
Consequence
Animals perform behaviours because they love and respect us an want to please us
False
In operant conditioning the operant behaviour is optional
True
A pleasant consequence causes a behaviour to ? and an unpleasant behaviour causes the behaviour to ?
increase; decrease
Translate the following: R+
Adding something to increase a behaviour
Translate the following P+
Adding something to decrease a behaviour.
Translate the following: P-
Removing something to decrease a behaviour
Translate the following: R-
Removing something to increase a behaviour.
Why do we encourage R +
• Animals will voluntarily produce behaviours and you can reinforce them
• Increases quality of life
• Improves the human-animal bond
• You create a friend that WANTS to interact opposed to an animal that is AFRAID! • More humane • Greater overall success
WE AVOID POSITIVE PUNISHMENT (P+). WHY
It can make the learner anxious and unhappy
The learner may quit trying in order to avoid being punished
When used poorly doesnt work, just causes harm
Punishment can be abusive
Learning must make a mistake in order to learn, if complex, learner is punished repeatedly
Can be very confusing and scary for the learner
Animals can become habituated and even see punishment as R+
Can hide/suppress warning signs and just bite instead
What type of training is a body block?
Negative punishment - involves removing access to something desirable to discourage a behavior.
Steps of clicker training(5) unfortunately
Charge the clicker
Create a focus
Lure and shape
Add a cue and fade the lure
Keep it fun
