What are characteristics of isometric contractions?
A muscular contraction in which tension is developed but the muscle does not change in length; there is not joint movement; used in the initial treatment of an injury
What are characteristics of isotonic contractions?
A muscle contraction with a change in length; there is joint movement and the exercise is performed against a controlled resistance
What is the definition of concentric isotonic contractions?
Shortened contraction (+ work)
What is the definition of eccentric isotonic contractions?
Lengthening contraction (- work)
What are characteristics of isokinetic contractions?
A muscular contraction with a change in length and a constantly changing resistance performed at a constant speed through a full range of motion
