Essential Lab Attire
Goggles, closed-toe shoes, and tight fitting clothing that covers as much as possible.
Prohibited Lab Attire
Crocs, clothing with holes or rips, necklaces, or baggy clothing.
Broken Glass Disposal
Notify the instructor and place in the designated broken glass box, NOT the garbage.
Test Tube Direction
Should always be pointed AWAY from ALL people.
Fire Emergency Policy
Tell the instructor and evacuate the building. Do NOT use the fire extinguisher; the instructor will do that.
Goggle Usage
Must be worn any time chemicals, heat, or glass are used.
Clarification of Instructions
If you do not understand instructions during the lab, ask your instructor.
Pre-Lab Preparation
Complete the preLab if provided, go over instructions, make annotations, and ask questions.
Consumption Rule
Absolutely NO eating, drinking, or chewing gum in the lab.
Hot Glassware Appearance
It looks no different from cold glassware.
Cooling Glassware
Do not touch for 5minutes and NEVER dunk it in cold water, or it could shatter.
Emergency Shower
Used if you get a hazardous chemical on you.
Emergency Eye Wash Duration
Use for 15−20minutes and have a friend help hold your eyes open.
Extra Chemical Disposal
Dispose according to instructor instructions; NEVER place them back in the original container.
Post-Lab Conclusion
Wash your hands with soap and water.
Chemical Removal Policy
No chemicals can be taken out of the lab.
Bunsen Burner Safety
Turn it off or have a Lab partner watch it; NEVER leave a lit burner unattended.
Flammable GHS Label
Indicates a substance lights on fire; must be kept away from flames or oxidizers.
Oxidizer GHS Label
Reacts with flammables; must be kept away from flames or flammables.
Corrosive GHS Label
Indicates a substance that burns skin or corrodes (eats away at) metals.
Health Hazard GHS Label
Indicates a substance that can cause cancer.
Irritant GHS Label (!)
Indicates a substance that may irritate skin and eyes.
Acutely toxic GHS Label
Indicates a substance that is very toxic and can cause death.
Environmental Hazard GHS Label
Indicates a substance that is toxic to aquatic life (fish).
