2 types of circulation
pulmonary, systemic
circulation that carries deoxygenated blood back to the lungs so that they may be oxygenated
pulmonary
steps in pulmonary circulation
right ventricle contracts → blood is forced to the pulmonary arteries → lungs → gas exchange → pulmonary veins → left atrium → left ventricle
circulation that carries oxygenated blood from the heart to the organs and tissues
systemic
steps in systemic circulation
left ventricle → aorta → oxygenated blood to smaller arteries → body organs and tissues → returns to heart through veins → deoxygenated blood to the right atrium
