Pre-Islamic Arabia
A period before the advent of Islam characterized by a desert climate, clan-based social structure, and trade routes connecting major regions.
Mecca
A city that became wealthy due to its location on trade routes and its religious significance.
Clans
Large extended families that formed the basic social unit and governance structure in Pre-Islamic Arabian society.
Hijrah
The migration of Muhammad and his followers from Mecca to Yathrib (Medina) in 622, marking a pivotal moment in Islamic history.
Five Pillars of Islam
The five fundamental acts of worship and practice in Islam: Shahadah, Salat, Zakat, Siyam, and Hajj.
Caliphs
The leaders of the Islamic community after the death of Muhammad, tasked with uniting and leading the Muslim empire.
Abu Bakr
The first caliph who reunited Muslims after Muhammad’s death.
Umar
The second caliph known for expanding the Muslim empire.
Uthman

The system of numeric symbols that were further developed in the Islamic Golden Age and spread to Europe.
Cordoba
A city in present-day Spain known for its cultural and intellectual thriving during the Islamic Golden Age.
Hajj
The pilgrimage to Mecca that every Muslim must undertake at least once in their lifetime if they are able.
