Biology
The Science of Life.
The 3 Domains
The three major classification groups for all living organisms: Bacteria, Archaea, and Eukarya.
Unicellular
Made of one cell.
Multicellular
Made of many cells.
Prokaryotic
Cells that do not have a nucleus.
Eukaryotic
Cells that have a nucleus.
Ingested
A method of obtaining food by eating or consuming food.
Made
A method of obtaining food where organisms make their own food, usually through Photosynthesis.
Absorbed
A method of obtaining food by taking in nutrients from surroundings.
Bacteria
A domain of living things characterized as relatively small, unicellular, prokaryotic, and absorbing food.
Archaea
A domain of living things characterized as relatively small, unicellular, prokaryotic, and absorbing food.
Eukarya
A domain of living things characterized as relatively large, variable in cell number, eukaryotic, and variable in how food is obtained.
Evolutionary theory
The theory that explains both the similarities and the diversity between living organisms.
Scientific method
A set of principles and guidelines that govern how science should theoretically be done.
Cell
The smallest functioning unit to be considered alive or to be considered an organism.
Homeostasis
The maintenance of constant internal conditions despite external fluctuations.
Hormones
Chemical messengers through which organisms maintain homeostasis.
Biological Organization
The levels of organization in living things from most specific: Atoms -> Molecules -> Organelles -> Cells -> Tissues -> Organs -> Organism -> Population -> Community -> Ecosystem -> Biosphere.
