New cards

what are prokaryotes?

an organism in eubacteria or arches, unicellular with no membrane bound organelles, eubacteria and arches are in different domains so they are different genetic types of prokaryotes

2
New cards

what are stromatolites?

early bacteria fossils made by cyanobacteria, which supports the theory that bacteria has been here for a really long time

3
New cards

what are some features of eubacteria?

cell wall, cell membrane, cytoplasm, DNA, plasmids, ribosomes, flagella, pilli, capsule

4
New cards

What is the function of pilli?

when two prokaryotes share DNA, the pilli sticks together to communicate with other bacteria

5
New cards

what are flagella?

helps with movement

6
New cards

what is the function of the capsule?

protection

7
New cards

What are plasmids?

circular DNA in cytoplasm

8
New cards

what are some benefits of bacteria?

helps with digestion, helps to decompose things, helps with nitrogen fixation, and food production (cheese)

9
New cards

what are bacilli?

rod shaped bacterial cell

10
New cards

what are cocci?

round bacterial cell

11
New cards

what are sprillia?

spiral shaped bacterial cell

12
New cards

what are the eubacteria arrangements?

mono: single, diplo: pair, staphylo: clumps, strepto: strings

13
New cards

what are obligate aerobes?

require oxygen to produce energy

14
New cards

what are facultative anaerobes?

organisms that can live with or without oxygen

15
New cards

what are obligate anaeorobes?

organisms that cannot survive with oxygen, but can make energy in the presence of other gases
