Organization
Social structures created by individuals to support the collaborative pursuit of specified goals (Scott & Davis, 2007).
Closed Systems
Organizations that are largely protected from outside influences.
Open Systems
Organizations that are influenced by outside influences.
For-Profit Organizations
Organizations that exist to generate profits from products or services.
Nonprofit Organizations
Organizations that exist to fulfill one or more needs of a community.
Public Organizations
Organizations where funding comes primarily from the government or taxpayers.
Private Organizations
Organizations where funding comes from the sale of goods or services.
Mutual Benefit Organizations
Organizations that advocate for their members.
Business Organizations
Organizations that serve the interests of ownership.
Service Organizations
Organizations that cater to specific clients.
Commonwealth Organizations
Organizations that benefit the larger society or 'public-at-large'.
Organizational Theory
The study of the structure, processes, and outcomes of organizations.
Criminal Justice Organizations
Includes Police, Courts, and Corrections.
