NPY/AgRP (Orexigenic) : Increase hunger, increase food
POMC/CART (Anorexigenic) : Increase satiety, decrease food
Ghrelin
In stomach.
Ghrelin increase → NPY/AgRP increase → Food increase
Leptin
By adipose tissue.
Inhibit NPY/AgRP and activate POMC/CART → Decrease food
Leptin resistance
In obesity, leptin may be high but less responsive. Make satiety signal less effective.
Leptin present doesnt mean the signal is working effectively.

ones that had no leptin → overate and obese
ones with leptin → food intake decreased
Short term satiety
CCK and PPY released from gut after eating → increase satiety → intake decrease.
Homeostatic v Hedonic
Homeostatic: Eating via. energy needs → Hormones/Hypothalamus
Hedonic: Eating via. reward/wanting even when energy need met. VTA → NAcc DA
Eating = Homeostatic control + Hedonic reward
