Triboluminescence
Produces light from Scratching / Rubbing certain crystals together Â
Eg. Pop-rocks and sugar
Chemiluminescence
Production of light from a chemical reaction
Eg. glow sticks
Bioluminescence
Production of light by living organisms, such as fireflies and certain fungi.
Fluorescence
Production of light immediately that releases visible light from UV light
Eg. Florescence light bulb
Incandescence
Production of light from heat, as seen in traditional light bulbs.
Electric discharge
The process of producing light by passing an electric current through a gas, resulting in a glow as seen in neon signs and fluorescent tubes.
Phosphorescence
A process where materials absorb light and re-emit it over time, producing a glow that lasts longer than fluorescence. Commonly seen in glow-in-the-dark products.
L E D s
Light produced by electricity travelling through the semiconductor
Lasers
A light source that goes in one direction
