-1 1/2 to +1 1/2
What does a maneuver score of 0 mean?
Correct performance with no degree of difficulty.
What does +1/2 mean?
Good.
What does +1 mean?
Very good.
What does +1 1/2 mean?
Excellent.
What does -1/2 mean?
Poor.
What does -1 mean?
Very poor.
What does -1 1/2 mean?
Extremely poor.
In what increments are individual maneuvers scored?
1/2-point increments.
What is the first thing a judge should determine when evaluating a maneuver?
Whether the horse and rider are on pattern.
After determining that the horse is on pattern, what is the next judging priority?
Correctness of the maneuver.
After on-pattern and correctness are established, what does the judge evaluate?
Degree of difficulty.
What qualities may earn credit for degree of difficulty?
Smoothness, finesse, attitude, quickness, authority, and controlled speed.
Should penalties be averaged into maneuver scores?
No. Penalties and maneuver scores are evaluated separately.
Can a penalty automatically lower the maneuver score?
No, unless the quality of the maneuver itself was actually affected.
Should maneuver scores from different maneuvers be averaged together?
No. Each maneuver group is evaluated individually.
How is the final score calculated?
Start with 70, add or subtract maneuver scores, then subtract penalties.
If a horse severely stumbles and it significantly detracts from a maneuver, what happens?
The maneuver score is reduced by 1/2 point.
Are maneuver evaluations and penalty applications determined together?
No. They are determined independently.
Who receives the benefit of the doubt when a judge is uncertain whether a penalty occurred?
The exhibitor.
If a judge is unsure whether a specific penalty occurred, should the penalty be applied?
No. Give the exhibitor the benefit of the doubt.
What should a judge evaluate when scoring a maneuver group?
The entire maneuver group, not just one component.
