Position Responsibilities

Driver

Drives the apparatus to and from the incident. Assumes responsibility for operating pump. Cannot leave the immediate area of the truck. Only a driver on brush rigs as officer will take over pumping operations.

Officer

Responsible for all personnel and equipment in their charge. On brush trucks, he / she also becomes the pump operator. Whoever sits in the right front seat is the officer of the apparatus.

Nozzleman

Seated in the left rear seat, is responsible for extending the hose line in the instances where a hydrant is being taken, or when attacking a fire from the engine and the fire is on the left side of the truck.

Hydrant man

Seated in the right rear seat, is responsible for making the hydrant connection. When no hydrant is needed, and the fire is on the right side of the truck he / she is responsible for extending the hose line.

Probationer

Seated in the middle front or middle rear. May be asked to do a variety of tasks including getting equipment off the apparatus or assisting on a hose line.

Cadet

Same riding and job description as a probationer, but shall not drive apparatus, operate power equipment or on roofs, perform interior attack operations or extrications, respond or operate HAZMAT incidents or timbered wildland fires, and shall not respond out of district.
