Line Graphs
Graphs used to show a direct relationship where the independent variable (IV) causes the dependent variable (DV) to change.
Independent Variable (IV)
The variable that is manipulated or changed in an experiment to observe its effect on the dependent variable.
Dependent Variable (DV)
The variable that is measured or observed in an experiment, which is affected by the independent variable.
Bar Graphs
Graphs used for comparing two or more groups or categories.
Starting Point of Bar Graphs
Bar graphs do not need to start at zero unless the data specifically indicates that it should.
Titles of Graphs
Titles should always include both the independent variable (IV) and the dependent variable (DV).
Units in Graphs
When graphing time and distance, it is important to include the appropriate units of measurement.
