Ability to taste PTC compound
linked to the presence of the protein protein Taste receptor 2 member 38 (encoded by TAS2R38 gene) located on chromosome 7q
DNA Extraction Protocol
1. Breaking cells open to release the DNA
- vortex/grinding
- centrifugation
- detergent (used because plasma membrane are phospholipid bilayer)
2. Separating DNA from proteins and other cellular debris
- protease (proteinase K) (used to degrade protein)
3. Precipitating the DNA with an alcohol
- ice-cold alcohol (either ethanol or isopropanol) (used to protect DNA)
4. Cleaning the DNA with ethanol
