What was the Industrial revolution?

The Industrial Revolution was a huge period of change (around 1750-1900) when Britain shifted from making things by hand at home to using big new machines in factories, leading to faster production, new inventions (like steam engines), and people moving from the countryside to fast-growing cities for work, transforming life and work forever

What were the key events of the Industrial Revolution?

  • Steam and water power became more popular around 1780 to 1820

  •  multiple inventions within the textiles industry such as a cotton spinning wheel and other large cotton mills

  • The increase in the use of steam power allowed for an increase in globalization and trade routes

  •  increasing population, farming became more sophisticated, machines that allowed work to be done quicker and on a larger scale this led to many workers go to cities as few jobs remained in the countryside

  •  population in cities increased the conditions became worse as more cramped

  • All this machinery led to an increased carbon footprint 

  • less room for green space as more people were forced into one area,  is again decreasing air quality and increasing carbon footprint 

  • In The 1840s Corporation tripled which allowed for increased transport 

  • Less jobs meant many were poor there was a larger difference between the rich and the poor

What are the causes of the Industrial Revolution?

  • Population growth created demand for goods as there were more people to sell to

  • Raw materials contributed to providing a power source for new machines as well as the materials to make these machines form 

  • new systems of Transport allowed goods to reach their destination more quickly speeding up production as well as creating demand for materials as this industry developed
