Proclamation of 1763

Colonists could not settle West of the Appalachian Mountains to prevent trouble with the Native Americans; colonists largely ignored this

Sugar Act (1764)

Replaced Molasses Act; British sugar planters would now get a duty of 3 pence/gallon instead of 6 pence/gallon; attempted to reduce the profits for smugglers; colonial merchants protest

Stamp Act (1765)

Required stamps on all documents, land titles, playing cards, etc; covered part of the cost of keeping British troops in America; leads to Sons of Liberty riots

Revenue Act (1767)

Duties on colonial imports (paper, glass, tea, etc); paid for the salaries of the royal governors, which kept the governors from being swayed by colonial demands

Tea Act (1773)

Cancelled Import duty on BEIC tea; encouraged colonists to drink the cheaper BEIC tea

Quartering Act (1774)

Must house British troops

Boston Port Act (1774)

Force MA to pay for the Boston Tea Party’s damages

Treaty of Paris (1763)

Removed French from North America; doubled Britain’s national debt

Navigation Act (1663)

ALL colonial imports from Europe to America had to stop in England and pay taxes, gave Britain a monopoly over tobacco and sugar
