Indicates that the step was omitted.
Rating 1
Indicates the basic technique was not done well.
Rating 2
Indicates the technique was performed correctly but with hesitation.
Rating 3
Indicates the technique was performed correctly and without hesitation.
Rating 4
Indicates the technique, speed and style are excellent.
Mitred corners
The technique used to tuck the bottom sheet evenly under the mattress at the top and bottom so there are no creases.
Mackintosh
A waterproof sheet placed at the mid portion of the bed.
Draw sheet
A sheet used to cover the mackintosh and tuck in at the sides.
Dressing towel
An item placed at the top of the bed towards the sides.
Anesthetic tray
Equipment placed by the bed side during the preparation of an operation bed.
Hand hygiene
A critical performance step to be completed during bed preparation.
Emergency/Support Equipment
Includes a medication tray, suction machine, and oxygen apparatus.
Bed accessories
Items gathered by the bedside such as a drip stand, bed rails, and vital signs equipment.
