Experiment

A scientific procedure undertaken to make a discovery, test a hypothesis, or demonstrate a known fact.

Control Group

A standard baseline in an experiment that does not receive the treatment or intervention being tested.

Experimental Group

The set of participants or subjects in a study that receives the specific treatment or intervention being tested.

Homeostasis

The self-regulating process by which an organism maintains a stable internal environment despite changes in the outside world.

Dependent Variable

The factor that you measure or test in an experiment to see how it responds to changes made to another factor.

Scientific Method

A systematic, empirical process used to explore observations, test ideas, and acquire new knowledge while minimizing bias.

Conclusion

A final claim or judgment that explains experimental data and states whether the evidence supports or rejects the original hypothesis.

Evolution

The change in the inherited traits of a biological population over successive generation.

Independent Variable

A variable whose variation does not depend on that of another.

Graph

A diagram showing the relation between variable quantities, typically of two variables, each measured along one of a pair of axes at right angles.

Line of Best Fit

A line of best fit is a straight line on a graph that shows the overall trend or relationship between two sets of data points.

Hypothesis

A supposition or proposed explanation made on the basis of limited evidence as a starting point for further investigation.

Constant

A value or factor that does not change.

Observation

The active process of gathering information about living things or natural processes using the senses or scientific tools.

Analyze

To carefully examine and break down data, samples, or systems into smaller parts to understand how they work or what they contain.
