Algorithms are useful for solving problems because they follow clear steps. However, one limitation of algorithms is that they are often:
Inflexible
Functional fixedness,
is not used in problem solving- is a cognitive bias or obstacle that hinders problem-solving — it occurs when someone is unable to see alternative uses for an object beyond its typical function.
Confirmation bias
occurs when a person seeks out, interprets, or remembers information that supports their existing beliefs while ignoring evidence that contradicts them.
Creative non-adherence
occurs when a patient intentionally changes how they take their medication — such as altering the dose, timing, or combining it with other substances — based on their own beliefs or judgments rather than medical advice.
James-Lange theory
it does not require the physiological response to occur first for the emotion to be felt.
Cannon-Bard theory of emotion…
The emotional experience and the physiological response happen simultaneously and independently.
Emotions and emotion regulation have been linked to health behaviours and outcomes across the disease initiation and progression 'health journey' pathway. Three of the points on the pathway where emotions are implicated are:

Emotion regulation using response modulation?
Response modulation involves directly influencing your emotional responses after they have been triggered, often through physiological or behavioral strategies.
Situation Selection
Choosing to enter or avoid situations to influence the emotions you are likely to experience
Situation Modification
Actively changing to the situation
Attentional deployment
Shifting focus of attention in a situation eg- distraction
Cognitive Change
Thinking about something else to alter the emotional impact
Definition of Emotions
A heritable set of adaptive mechanisms that function systemically to inform, motivate and organise an organism’s responses to the perception of a change in goal-environment relationships
ADHERENCE
The extent to which a person’s health behaviour corresponds
with agreed recommendations from a healthcare provider”
UNINTENTIONAL NON-ADHERENCE
A passive (not chosen by them)process in which the patient is unable to adhere to the recommended treatment plan due
to limited capacity or resources
INTENTIONAL NON-ADHERENCE
An active (chosen to do) process whereby the patient
chooses to deviate from the recommended
treatment plan.
