Local culture

The culture and traditions of a specific, usually small group of people in a particular place, often passed down through generations.

Global culture

Cultural traits that are shared by people around the world, often spread through globalization, media, technology, and businesses.

Non-material culture

The beliefs, values, customs, and ideas of a culture.

Material culture

The physical objects and technology created and used by a culture.

Cultural hearth

A place where important cultural ideas and traits originate and spread.

Indigenous (folk) culture

A culture traditionally practiced by a small, often isolated group with strong connections to a particular place.

Cultural trait

A single characteristic of a culture, such as language, food, clothing, or religion.

Centripetal force

A force that unifies people and strengthens a society.

Centrifugal force

A force that divides people and weakens a society.

Cultural landscape

The visible human-made changes to the natural environment that reflect a culture.

Sequent occupance

The idea that successive cultures leave their cultural marks on a place over time.

Cultural divergence

The process in which cultures become more different from one another.
