Behaviorism
A branch of psychology that focuses on the study of observable behaviors and how they are learned or influenced by the environment.
Conditioning
The process through which behavior is learned, occurring through interaction with the environment.
Classical Conditioning
Learning through association, as demonstrated by Pavlov's experiments with dogs.
Operant Conditioning
Learning through reinforcement and punishment, as shown in Skinner's experiments.
Observable Behavior
Behaviors that can be seen and measured, as opposed to internal thoughts or emotions.
Behavior Modification
Using conditioning techniques to change and shape behavior.
Reinforcement
A process that encourages the repetition of a behavior by providing a reward for desired actions.
Punishment
A process that discourages a behavior by applying an adverse consequence after the behavior occurs.
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)
A method that applies behavioral principles to treat various behavioral issues, commonly used in Autism treatment.
Language Acquisition Device (LAD)
Noam Chomsky's proposed innate mechanism enabling children to learn language naturally.
