Challenges of Behavior Change
Factors such as ingrained habits, lack of social support, and insufficient knowledge make changing behavior complex.
Theories of Behavior Change
Frameworks that guide the selection and evaluation of interventions based on comprehensiveness, coherence, and connection to behavior models.
COM-B Model (Michie et al., 2011)

Capability
The physical and psychological ability to engage in the behavior.
Opportunity

Automatic Motivation
Habits and impulses that influence behavior subconsciously.
Reflective Motivation
Conscious planning and intentions that guide behavior.
BCT Taxonomy
A classification system to categorize behavior change techniques and their mechanisms of action.
OBMS (Ontology-Based Modelling System)
A tool for modeling and representing behavior change theories.
WEIRD
An acronym referring to Western, Educated, Industrialized, Rich, Democratic populations, which may limit the generalizability of research findings.
Determinants of Health
Factors that influence health outcomes and behaviors.
Frameworks for Designing Interventions
Models used to create effective behavior change strategies that foster lasting change.
Behavior Change Techniques (BCTs)
Specific methods used within interventions to promote behavior change.
Why We Study Health Behavior
To understand determinants of health and design effective behavior change interventions.
