Soma

the cell body of a neuron, manufacturing all of the proteins that the neuron needs, contains majority of the organelles

Nissl bodies

the ribosomes and rough endoplasmic reticulum of the neuron

Dendrites

short, forked process that receive input from other neurons, transmitting via electrical signals to the rest of the cell body.

Axon

a nerve fiber that carries a nerve impulse away from the neuron cell body

axon hillock

the transition between the soma and axon

Axolemma

plasma membrane of an axon

Axon terminal/synaptic knob

the ends of the axon that communicate with a target cell
