Measuring dark adaptation
observer is light adapted, light turned off, every min or so observer adjusts intensity of test light
Cones
moment we go into darkness they kick in; respond quickly to darkness; but they level off quickly when it comes to sensitivity
rods
responds immediately when we go into darkness, gradually get more sensitive and level
Rod cone break
break between the two systems. We swtich from relying on cones to rods
Purkinje Shift
enhanced sensitivity to short wavelengths during dark adaptation when the shift from one (photopic) to rod (scotopic) vision occurs
