Pixel
The smallest unit of a digital image or display, representing a single point of color.
Resolution
The number of pixels displayed per unit of measurement, usually indicating image detail, often measured in dots per inch (dpi).
Bitmap
A stored set of numbers describing the content of all pixels in an image.
Dithering
A process that generates color approximations by placing small dots of different colors in an interlocking pattern.
Optical Character Recognition (OCR)
A technology that uses software or a special-purpose processor to interpret bitmap content and search for patterns similar to printed characters.
Additive Colors
Colors produced by combining red, green, and blue light, commonly used in video displays.
Subtractive Colors
Colors produced by subtracting light, such as cyan, magenta, yellow, and black (CMYK), used in printing.
Impact Printer
A printer that works by physically striking an ink-soaked ribbon against paper, often seen in dot matrix printers.
Inkjet Printer
A type of printer that places liquid ink directly onto paper through a series of nozzles.
Laser Printer
A printer that uses an electrical charge and laser technology to attract toner to specific areas on a drum.
Capacitive Touchscreen
A type of touchscreen that uses the conductivity of objects to sense their location on the screen.
Speech Recognition
The process of recognizing and responding to the meaning embedded in spoken words.
Speech Generation
The process by which devices produce spoken messages based on text input.
Audio Sampling
The process of converting analog sound waves to digital format by analyzing sound frequently.
Chromatic Depth
The number of distinct color shades a display can show, indicating its color fidelity.
Manual Input Device
Devices like keyboards or pointing devices used for user input in computer systems.
Resolution of a Display
Measured as dots per inch (dpi), it determines the clarity and detail of an image.
Digital Audio Converter (DAC)
A device that converts digital audio signals back into an analog form for playback.
