Written after the war began and used Locke’s idea of inalienable rights, 20% wanted independence while other 20% wanted the monarchy
Confederal form of government
Federal gov’t had little power while states had full power politically, socially, and economically
States power under the articles of confederation
States had power over taxes, commerce, foreign trade, and the currency
if national gov’t wanted money or an army they had to ask the states
If a country wanted to form a treaty they would have to ask all 13 states
How was that bad?
Each state put tariffs on their goods when selling to other states
One state, one vote
There was no president, only one power congress
each state got one representative
to pass a law 9/13 states needed to agree
to amend the articles of confederation 13/13 states needed to agree
