Intelligence
the ability to learn from experience, solve problems, & use knowledge to adapt to new situations
General Intelligence (g)
underlies all mental abilities & is therefore measured by every task on an intelligence test
Factor Analysis
a statistical procedure that identifies clusters of related items (factors) on a test; used to identify diff. dimensions of performance that underlie a person’s total score
Fluid Intelligence (Gf)
ability to reason speedily & abstractly; tends to decrease w/ age, especially during late adulthood.
Crystallized Intelligence
accumulated knowledge & verbal skills; tends to increase w/ age
Cattell-Horn Carroll (CHC) Theory
theory that our intelligence is based on g as well as specific abilities, bridged by Gf & Gc
Savant Syndrome
a condition in which a person otherwise limited in mental ability has an exceptional specific skill
Grit
passion & perseverance in the pursuit of long-term goals
Emotional Intelligence
the ability to perceive, understand, manage, & use emotions
Gardner’s Multiple Intelligence
our intelligence is classified in 9 independent intelligences, including a broad range of skills beyond traditional school skills
Sternberg’s Triarchic Intelligence
our intelligence is classified into 3 areas that predict real-world success; these include analytical, creative, & practical
General Intelligence
intelligence is based on general ability factors along w/ other specific abilities; these are bridged by crystallized & fluid intelligence
Emotional Intelligence
emotional intelligence contributes to social intelligence; consists of perceiving, understanding, managing, & using emotions
Spearman’s General Intelligence
