Faraday's Law
States that a change in magnetic flux through a circuit induces an electromotive force (EMF) in that circuit.
Induced EMF
An electromotive force generated in a circuit due to a change in magnetic flux.
Magnetic Flux (Φ)
The product of the average magnetic field times the perpendicular area that it penetrates.
Lenz's Law
States that the direction of induced current is such that it opposes the change in magnetic flux that produced it.
Motional EMF
The EMF generated when a conductor moves through a magnetic field.
Maxwell's Equations
A set of four equations that describe how electric and magnetic fields interact.
Coil with N turns
A loop of wire wound into a coil shape, with N representing the number of turns of wire.
Ampère's Law
Relates the integrated magnetic field around a closed loop to the electric current passing through the loop.
