3-D Shapes
Shapes that you are able to pick up, which have faces (sides), edges, and vertices (corners).
Rectangular Prism
A 3-D object that can have either 6 rectangular faces or 4 rectangular faces and 2 square faces.
Cube
A 3-D object that always has 6 square faces.
Square based pyramid
A 3-D object with 1 square face and 4 triangular faces, totaling 5 flat surfaces.
Faces
The flat or curved sides of a 3-D shape.
Edges
The lines where the faces of a 3-D shape meet; these can be straight or curved.
Vertices
The corners of a 3-D shape.
Triangular prism
A 3-D object that has 2 triangular faces and 3 rectangular faces, totaling 5 flat surfaces and 9 edges.
Hexagonal prism
A 3-D object with two hexagonal faces and six square (or rectangular) faces, totaling 8 faces, 18 edges, and 12 vertices.
Sphere
A 3-D object with only 1 curved surface and 0 edges or vertices.
Cylinder
A 3-D object with 2 flat surfaces (circles), 1 curved surface, 2 curved edges, and 0 vertices.
Cone
A 3-D object with 1 flat surface, 1 curved surface, 1 curved edge, and 1 vertex.
Tetrahedron
A triangle-based pyramid consisting of 4 flat triangular surfaces, 6 straight edges, and 4 vertices.
Pentagonal prism
A 3-D object with 7 flat surfaces, 15 straight edges, and 10 vertices.
Octagonal prism
A 3-D object with 10 flat surfaces, 24 straight edges, and 16 vertices.
Octahedron
A 3-D object with 8 flat surfaces, 12 straight edges, and 6 vertices.
Angle Symbol
The symbol used for an angle is ∠.
Face Angles
The angles found on the surfaces of 3-D objects, which can be right ∠, smaller than right ∠, or bigger than right ∠.
Hyperbolic paraboloid
The mathematical name for the shape of a Pringle.
