ORAL (0-18 MONTHS OLD)

1st stage in the psychosexual development process, focuses on oral satisfaction. This stage occurred between birth and 18 months old. In his studies concerning this stage, Freud believed that an infant' s mouth was the only organ of pleasure.

The period of human development occurring at about 1 to 3 years of age. Around this age, the child begins to toilet train, which brings about the child' s fascination in the erogenous zone of the anus. The erogenous zone is focused on the bowel and bladder control.

LATENCY (AGE 7 - 13 YEARS OLD)

The fourth stage of psychosexual development, spanning six years to puberty. The libido is dormant during this stage, and no further psychosexual development occurs (latent means hidden). In this stage, Freud believed sexual impulses are repressed, leading to a period of relative calm.
