CANVAS (Learning Management System)
MDC's online platform used for HUM1020. Provides Course Modules, Course Schedule, Announcements, and Canvas Inbox; login with MDC credentials.
BLENDED COURSE
A mix of on-campus in-person instruction and online learning through CANVAS; requires independent online work and self-direction (about 2–3 hours per week).

ATTENDANCE POLICY (16‑week term)
2 unexcused absences allowed; 3 absences = minus one letter grade; 4 = minus two; 5 = automatic failure.
TARDY
Late to class; 2 tardies equal 1 absence; late arrival may be counted as an absence.
OFFICE HOURS
Instructor availability for meetings by appointment; remote meetings via Zoom; arrange via Canvas Inbox.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
CANVAS feature for course updates; opt into to have announcements sent to your mymdc.net email.
ACADEMIC DISHONESTY
Cheating on quizzes/exams; using unauthorized resources; logging activity; can result in a failing grade.
PLAGIARISM
Copying or not citing sources; including self-plagiarism and using essay mills; grounds for a failing grade.
QUIZZES AND EXAMS POLICY
Quizzes: 5 questions, 5 minutes, time starts at opening; late entries zero. Midterm/Final: 25 MC questions, 35 minutes; time starts at opening; in-person unless allowed otherwise; no outside help.
REQUIRED MATERIALS (DAY 1)
Note-taking materials; pen/pencil; laptop/device with working camera and mic; for tests, download Chrome or Firefox.
EXTRA CREDIT POLICY
Extra credit is at the instructor’s prerogative and not guaranteed; privileges may be revoked for academic dishonesty.
ASSIGNMENTS AND DEADLINES
All assignments have detailed guidelines; due by posted dates/times; no extensions or makeups unless approved; tests in person unless stated.
GRADING POLICY AND SCALE
Total 100 points: Group Digital Project 10; Quizzes 30; Final Digital Group Project 10; Mid Term 25; Final 25.
EXAM PREPARATION GUIDELINES
Bring a charged device; ensure required tech is available; no outside help; no talking; headphones and crib notes are prohibited.
CLASS CONDUCT DURING LECTURES
Be on time, minimize distractions, raise your hand with questions, engage in lecture, keep devices quiet and out of sight unless allowed.
ACADEMIC INTEGRITY (ADDITIONAL NOTES)
Screenshots of exams are prohibited; using AI like ChatGPT to compose work is dishonest and not tolerated.
