6
New cards

The main components of the health belief model

Perceived seriousness, perceived suscpetibilty go into perceived threats which along with perceived benefits/barriers, self efficacy and cues to action lead to the likelihood of engaging in health promoting behaviors

7
New cards

Any challenges or limitations related to health belief model

It assumes ppl wanna get well, that ppl believe health action with prevent illness, and that they can successfully take action. It overlooks environmental social factors, assumes rational decision making and ppl care about stuff, limited applicability to habitual behaviors

8
New cards

An application of the health belief model to a public health problem

Working out→ perceived seriousness: you have bad health if you dont | perceived suscpetibilty: you could be fat | perceived benefits: you will feel good if you work out | perceived barriers: you dont have time | self efficacy: you are actually able of move your body and working out | cues to action: you are reminded by ppl or smth to workout

New cards

The main components of the transtheoretical model

Precontemplation: no intention to change in six months, contemplation: considering change within the next six months, acknowledge it as a problem, preparation: planning to take change within 30 days, seeking help, asking for support, planning what it will look like, action: actively modifying behavior for less than 6 months: high commitment, actually trying, maintenance: actually changing for 6+ months, reducing temptation, just dont relapse, termination or relapse: either no desire to return to past or they go to a pervious stage

11
New cards
