The main purpose or definition of the socioecological framework
A model examining how individual, interpersonal, community, and societal factors shape health Health is shaped by multiple layers of influence Encourages systems thinking for public health Combines individual and structural approaches for sustainable change. Identifies interventions at multiple levels of influence
The main components of socioecological framework
Policy → federal, state, and local legislation | Community → cities, neighborhoods, resources, norms | institutional → organization, schools, workplace | interpersonal → family, friends, social network | individuals → knowledge, attitudes, skills, behaviors
Challenges and limitations related to socioecological framework
Doesnt actual tell you how to accomplish the change, Broad, Doesnt focus on intervention impact
An application of socioecological framework to a public health problem
COVID: policy - rent relief policy, ebt funds, unemployment checks | community → social distancing and wearing masks | institutional – lockdown | interpersonal → social distancing, social stigma of being sick | individuals → wearing masks, self accountability with sickness, hand sanitizer, self quarantine
The main purpose or definition of health belief model
Predict the likelihood of a person following a recommended action and ot understand the persons motivation and decision making regarding seeking health services. It is simple and easy to apply and focuses on individual decision making
The main components of the health belief model
Perceived seriousness, perceived suscpetibilty go into perceived threats which along with perceived benefits/barriers, self efficacy and cues to action lead to the likelihood of engaging in health promoting behaviors
Any challenges or limitations related to health belief model
It assumes ppl wanna get well, that ppl believe health action with prevent illness, and that they can successfully take action. It overlooks environmental social factors, assumes rational decision making and ppl care about stuff, limited applicability to habitual behaviors
An application of the health belief model to a public health problem
Working out→ perceived seriousness: you have bad health if you dont | perceived suscpetibilty: you could be fat | perceived benefits: you will feel good if you work out | perceived barriers: you dont have time | self efficacy: you are actually able of move your body and working out | cues to action: you are reminded by ppl or smth to workout
The main purpose or definition transtheoretical model
Explains the progressions of change and how people can change intentional behaviors through change
The main components of the transtheoretical model
Precontemplation: no intention to change in six months, contemplation: considering change within the next six months, acknowledge it as a problem, preparation: planning to take change within 30 days, seeking help, asking for support, planning what it will look like, action: actively modifying behavior for less than 6 months: high commitment, actually trying, maintenance: actually changing for 6+ months, reducing temptation, just dont relapse, termination or relapse: either no desire to return to past or they go to a pervious stage
Any challenges or limitations related to the transtheoretical model
An application of the transtheoretical model to a public health problem.
The main purpose of health in the arts
Way to emotainally deal with injury, illness, etc, positive influene on ehalth beahaviors, provide method of enjoyment, create a space for patients to connect with others
The main components of health in the arts
Three main pathways: art and mentahl health (improves outcomes), art and social health (improves belonging, build networks), arts and physical health (positive and neagative, body outcomes but also help like dancing for overweight ppl)
Any challenges or limitations related to health in the arts
Not perceived as actually helpful, not accepted in spaces of health, mostly thought of as mental health problem
An application of health in the arts to a public health problem
Dancing as an art that improves health → Can improve mental health by releasing endorphins and being fun less anxiety, if dance with community can improve social relationships and sense of community, can help with being overweight or flexibilty
. The main purpose or definition of the health communication theory
To share important health information to encourage individuals to take healthy action using the elaboration likelihood model you can make ppl motivated to change
The main components of the health communcation theory
Communicate participations of informal and formal leaders, influential ppl
Share important information with leaders
Establish link between health action and health outcome
Steps in elaboration likelihood model
Identify the problem
Identify target audience
Identify what you want to say → think about barriers, beliefs, risks, attitudes, norms, and keep pretesting
Where do you want to say it
Identify a trusted and credible source → trustworkty = likeliable and similar and credible = trustworthy and expert
How do we get the comm. Used
How do you implement comm.
How well did you do (key metrics)
Any challenges or limitations related to the health communciaton theory model
It is difficult to get a good fast and cheap form of communication, lots to consider with communication, sometimes those planning the communication are not aware of cultural factors and forget to consider things
An application of the health communication theory to a public health problem.
COMM: get breast cancer testing
Identify important ppl in females lives
Tell those ppl of the threat
Share link between catching cancer early and surviving
Elaboration likelihood model
Ppl dont get tested
Women
say get tested and why you should
In female populatited spaces like nail salons
Doctors and trusted and credible to many american females
Share the issue with leaders like religious, families, work, female spaces
Give them the flyers or information about how to make an appt
See how many more appts are made
