gait belt, nonslip socks or shoes, wheel chair

hand hygiene and knock

step 2

identify and explain procedure to resident

step 3

privacy curtain, bed wheels locked, call light in reach, bed is low

step 4

gather supplies

step 5

assist resident in putting on non slip shoes or foot wear

step 6

adjust bed height so that residents feet are flat on ground

step 7

ENSURE BED AND WHEELCHAIR BRAKES ARE ON

bring resident to seating position in bed

step 9

place gait belt around resident and tighten belt (only two finger fit)

Step 10

proper body mechanics, grasp both sides of gait belt. (toe to toe and knee to knee)

Step 11

stabilize and walk 10 steps

step 12

pivot turn into wheel chair

step 13

proper body mechanics to sit patient into wheel chair

step 14

remove gait belt

step 15

place call light in reach and open privacy curtain

step 16

wash hands and skill complete
