Positive Symptoms

any change in behavior or thought; additional unusual experinece

Hallucination

perception-like experience that occur without an external stimulus and appears to have intrusive thoughts. Occur in in any sensory modality and must occur in the context of a clear sensorium.

Delusions

basic characteristics of madness; fixed belief that are not amenable to change in light of conflicting evidence.

Persecutory Delusion

belief that one is going to be harmed by an individual or group

Referential Delusions

belief that certain gestures are directed at oneself.

Grandiose Delusion

when an individual believes that he has exceptional abilities or wealth.

Erotomanic Delusion

an indvidual believes falsely that another person is in ove with him.

Somatic Delusion

belief that something highly abnormal is happening to one’s body.

Thought Withdrawal

belief that one’s thought have been removes by some outside force.

Thought Insertion

alien thoughts have been put into one’s mind.

Delusion of Control

one’s body or action are being acted or manipulated by some outside force.

Derailment

marked by frequent interruptions in thought and jumping from one idea to another unrelated or indirectly related idea.

Tangentiality

person constantly digresses to irrelevant topics and fails to arrive at the main point.

Incoherence or Word Salad

speech is severely disorganized that is nearly incomprehensible

Grossly Disorganized

childlike silliness and unpredictable agitation.

Catatonic Behavior

decrease reactivity to environment. Staying in rigid posture or having mutism.

Avolition

decreased in motivated self-initiated purposeful activities such as personal hygiene.

Alogia

diminished speech output

Anhedonia

decrease ability to experience pleasure

Associality

social withdrawal or lack interest in engaging in social interaction.

Flat Effect

diminished emotional expression

Schizophrenia

involve a range of cognitive, behavioral, and emotional dysfunction, but no single symptom is pathognomonic of the disorder.

6 Months

duration of continuous disturbance in schizophrenia

Prodromal Phase

behavior start to change, undergo behavioral and cognitive change, includes negative symptoms.

Active Phase

exhibit characteristic symptoms of psychosis such as delusion and hallucination.

Residual Phase

has less severe symptoms and experience negative symptoms.

Delusional Disorder

presence of one (more) delusions but criteria for schizophrenia has never been met. Function in not markedly impaired.

Bizarre Content

clearly implausible, not understandable, and not derived from ordinary life experience.

Brief Psychotic Disorder

includes one or more positive symptoms of psychotic disorder. They typically experience emotional turmoil or overwhelming confusion.

Schizophreniform Disorder

two or more positive and negative symptoms is present during a 1 month period.

Schizoaffective Disorder

an uninterrupted period of illness during which there is a major mood episode concurrent with criterion A of schizophrenia. Delusions or hallucination is present in 2 weeks in the absence of a major mood episode
