Adipose tissue
Tissue that helps with insulation and shock absorption, and serves as the location where a lot of energy is stored.
Oils
Fats that are in liquid form at room or body temperature, such as corn oils and olive oils.
Saturated fats
Fats that are solid at room or body temperature, such as butter and animal fat.
Phospholipid
A modified triglyceride that makes up the majority of the cell membrane and possesses amphipathic properties.
Amphipathic
Having both water loving (hydrophilic) and water fearing (hydrophobic) characteristics.
Steroids
Molecules that feature four rings of carbons instead of a carbon backbone.
Cholesterol
The parent steroid from which cortisol, progesterone, estrogen, testosterone, and bile acids are derived.
