Flip Turn
A somersault done by a swimmer before reaching the wall, and push off with their
feet, hands don’t touch the wall. Only used in freestyle and backstroke races

Details about the pool:
Be 50 meters long
Be 25 meters wide
Must have 10 lanes
Lanes must be 2.5 meters wide with two spaces of 2.5 meters wide outside of lanes 1 and 8
Outside lanes are left empty to minimise the possible disadvantages of the pushback caused by waves bouncing back off the side walls
Must have a rope or ‘lane-line’ separating each lane

Long Course (Olympic-Sized) is 50M. Short Course is 25M
How long is a lap?
A lap is considered as one length of the pool (50m)
What events can someone compete in?
These vary depending on the competition but can be as low as 25M to 1650M. 1650M is the longest freestyle event in the NCAA competition is referred to as the ‘mile’.
