Mesh Analysis
A method for analyzing circuits using mesh currents as variables.
KVL (Kirchhoff's Voltage Law)
A fundamental law that states the sum of voltages around a closed loop in a circuit is equal to zero.
Planar Circuit
A circuit that can be drawn without crossing branches.
Mesh Current
A current that flows around a mesh in a circuit.
Loop vs. Mesh
A loop is a closed path that may contain other loops; a mesh is a loop that does not contain any other loops.
Non-planar Circuit
A circuit that cannot be drawn without crossing branches.
Mesh Analysis Steps
Mutual Term
A resistive element with an additional loop current passing through it, affecting one or more loop equations.
Voltage Source
An element that provides electrical energy in a circuit, affecting the loop currents based on its polarity.
Simultaneous Equations
A set of equations that are solved together to find unknown variables, often used in mesh analysis.
