Macule/Patch
Flat, not detectable with palpation, changes in color; size
Papule/Plaque
Solid, raised lesion with distinct borders; size
Nodule
Raised solid mass with defined borders extending into the dermis; size 0.5-2 cm.
Tumor
Solid mass extending through subcutaneous tissue; may have undefined borders.
Vesicle/Bulla
Circumscribed, raised lesions filled with serous fluid; size
Pustule
Circumscribed, elevated lesion containing pus instead of clear fluid.
Wheal
Irregularly shaped area of edema caused by serous fluid in the dermis.
Burrow
Linear or circular appearance caused by infestation and tunneling of parasitic organisms.
Cyst
Encapsulated fluid-filled or semisolid mass extending into the dermis or subcutaneous tissue.
