Context clue
Hints in the words, phrases, or sentences around an unfamiliar word that help determine its meaning.
Definition clue
A context clue where the meaning of the unfamiliar word is directly explained in the sentence.
Synonym Clue
A clue where a nearby word or phrase has the same or nearly the same meaning as the unknown word.
Antonym Clue
A clue where the opposite meaning of the unknown word helps the reader infer the definition.
Example Clue
A clue where examples are provided to explain the unfamiliar term.
Inference Clue
A clue that requires the reader to combine context and logic to infer meaning even if no direct definition is given.
Noun
A word that names a person, place, thing, event, substance, or idea.
Proper Noun
A specific name of a person, place, or thing; always capitalized (e.g., “Dr. Cruz,” “Cebu”).
Common Noun
A general name for any member of a class (e.g., “teacher,” “city”).
Concrete Noun
A noun that refers to something perceived by the senses (e.g., “flower,” “music,” “perfume”).
Abstract Noun
A noun naming an idea, quality, or state not directly perceived by senses (e.g., “justice,” “honesty”).
Collective Noun
A noun that names a group acting as a unit (e.g., “team,” “committee,” “flock”).
Count Noun
A noun that can be counted and has singular/plural forms (e.g., “book/books”).
