Sender
The person who initiates the message.
Message
The information or idea being communicated.
Encoding
The process of converting ideas into symbols or words; turning an idea into words/symbols.
Channel
The medium used to communicate.
Receiver
The person who receives the message.
Decoding
Interpreting the message.
Feedback
The response to the message.
Noise
Anything that interferes with communication.
Context
The situation or environment where communication occurs; the situation surrounding communication.
Informative Communication
A purpose of communication that provides facts, knowledge, or explanations.
Persuasive Communication
A purpose of communication that attempts to influence beliefs, attitudes, or actions.
Entertaining Communication
A purpose of communication that provides enjoyment or amusement.
Expressive Communication
A purpose of communication that communicates feelings, opinions, or personal experiences.
Instructional Communication
A purpose of communication that provides directions or teaches someone how to do something.
Verbal Communication
Communication that uses spoken or written words.
