The classical viewpoint
Views humans as cogs within a machine, not taking into account the imperfection of human needs
Hawthorne effect
Employees worked harder if they received added attention, if they thought that managers cared about their welfare or that supervisors paid special attention to them
Theory X
Represents a pessimistic, negative viewpoint of workers. They are considered irresponsible, resistant to change, lacking in ambition, etc.
Theory Y
Represents an optimistic, positive view of workers. They are considered capable of accepting responsibility, exercising self-directions, self control and being creative.
Supply chain

Geocentric Managers
Whats best is whats effective, regardless of origin. Hire and promote based on best talent regardless of nationality. Balance global consistency with local adaption. What works best for the org as a whole

Exporting
Selling products to customers in other countries
Counter trading
Trading goods and services instead of money. Used when currency is limited or unstable
Licensing

Franchising

Joint venture

Wholly owned subsidiaries
