what is the first step?

ask the nurse about the redsidents needs, ablities, and limitations, gather supplies if necessary

what is the second step?

knock and identify yourself before entering the resident’s room, wait for permission to enter

what is the third step?

greet resident by preference and check ID band

what is the fourth step?

identify yourself by name and title

what is the fifth step?

explain what you will be doing, encourage resident to help as able

what is the sixth step?

gather supplies and check equipment

what is the seventh step?

close drapes, curtains, and door. keep resident covered, only expose area ncessary for procedure

what is the eighth step?

wash hands and put on gloves by standard precautions

what is the ninth step

use proper body mechanics. raise bed to proper height and lower side rails if raised
