Sensorimotor: 0-2 years

Coordinate senses with motor responses

Sensory curiosity

Langauge used for demands

Pre-operational: 2-7 years

Convesation developed

Imagination and intuition are strong

Complex, abstract thought still difficult

Concrete operational: 7-11 years

Think logically/rationally about events and objects

Still struggle with avstract and hypothetical thinking

Formal operations: 11+ years

Abstract logic and reasoning

Strategy and planning possible

Concepts learned in one context can be applied to another

Piaget and social learning

Use others as sources of info

Egocentricism first - can’t put themselves un other people's shoes until pre-operational stage

Learnt behaviours not easily transferred to other domains until formal operations stage
