Symptoms

Systemic disease

A disease that is distributed throughout the body and is not concentrated in one area.

Etiologic agents

Agents that cause disease, which include viruses.

Inflammatory response

The response of living tissue to injury, in which the body rapidly reacts with a series of specific vascular, chemical, and cellular events.

Acute inflammation

An inflammatory process with a general timeframe usually lasting 48-72 hours.

Acute condition

A disease with the sudden onset of severe signs and symptoms.

Signs and symptoms

Recognizable characteristics by which diseases are defined.

Vehicle transmission

Transmission of a pathogen through air, food, or liquid taken into the body.

Subacute inflammation

A stage of inflammation characterized by a key physiological response: the development of new blood vessels.

Tumor

An abnormal growth of tissue.
