What is the principle of conservation of mass?
The principle of conservation of mass states that mass cannot be created or destroyed in a chemical reaction; it can only be transformed from one form to another.
Define an atom.
An atom is the smallest unit of an element that retains the chemical properties of that element.
What is a chemical compound?
A chemical compound is a substance formed when two or more different elements are chemically bonded together.
What is the difference between an ionic bond and a covalent bond?
An ionic bond is formed through the transfer of electrons from one atom to another, resulting in electrostatic attraction between charged ions, while a covalent bond is formed when two atoms share electrons.
What is a catalyst?
A catalyst is a substance that increases the rate of a chemical reaction without being consumed or permanently altered by the reaction.
Describe the pH scale.
The pH scale ranges from 0 to 14, measuring the acidity or alkalinity of a solution; a pH of 7 is neutral, below 7 is acidic, and above 7 is alkaline.
What is photosynthesis?
Photosynthesis is the process by which green plants, algae, and some bacteria convert light energy into chemical energy, using carbon dioxide and water to produce glucose and oxygen.
Define kinetic energy.
Kinetic energy is the energy an object possesses due to its motion, defined by the equation KE=21mv2, where m is mass and v is velocity.
