Two Patient Identifiers

Laterality

NPO Status (First Cases)

General anesthesia patients scheduled as the first case of the day must be NPO for solid foods after midnight.

NPO Status (Subsequent Cases)

Patients scheduled after the first case of the day must be NPO for solid foods for $8$ hours.

NPO Clear Liquid Requirement

All patients must be NPO for clear liquids for $4$ hours prior to arrival time.

Carb Loading Drinks Timing

Prescribed drinks that must be taken $2$ hours prior to arrival to SDS.

Implants and Prosthetics

Any items in the body the patient was not born with, including plates, screws, stents, pacemakers, ICD, breast implants, intraocular lenses, or stimulators.

Site Mark

The physical marking of the surgical site that must be confirmed during the patient interview.

SDS

An abbreviation for Same Day Surgery, referencing the facility where the elective surgery standards of care policy is applied.
