Fluid balance, absorbs dietary fats, provide immune defense against pathogens.
what does lymph contain?
little protein, WBCs, water, electrolytes
What moves Lymph?
Skeletal muscle contraction, breathing, pulsation of nearby arteries
What are the primary Lymphatic organs?
Bone marrow and thymus
what are the secondary lymphatic organs?
lymph nodes, spleen, tongue, appendix, peyers patch
Where is MALT located?
digestive, respiratory, urinary, reproductive
Where is peyers patch located?
Ileum of the small intestine
What is the function of MALT?
Protects mucous membranes from pathogens
What is the function of Peyers Patch?
Monitor intestinal bacteria and prevent harmful bacteria from entering the bloodstream
what is the first line of defense?
skin, mucous membranes, tears, saliva, stomach acid
what is the second line of defense?
Inflammation, fever, phagocytes, NK cells
What is the third line of defense?
T cells, B cells, antibodies
