Electron microscope
See much finer cellular structures,
Ex. including ribosomes, ER, Golgi, lysosomes, peroxisomes, nuclear pores,
Cell membrane
Thin boundary forming the entire outer edge of the cell

Cell Membrane( Light Microscope )
Cytoskeleton
Throughout the cytoplasm, forming a network around and between organelles

Microvilli
Project outward from the cell membrane on the exposed surface of the cell; usually found in dense rows.

Cilia
Project outward from the cell membrane on the cell's exposed surface; extend into the surrounding space

Centriole
Near the nucleus, usually within the centrosome in the cytoplasm.

Free ribosomes
Floating freely throughout the cytoplasm, not attached to any membrane.

Attached ribosomes
Directly attached to the outer surface of the rough ER, especially on ER sheets close to the nucleus

Mitochondria
Scattered throughout the cytoplasm, often between other organelles.

Rough ER
In the cytoplasm surrounding/near the nucleus, often continuous with the outer nuclear membrane.

Smooth ER
Throughout the cytoplasm, often connected to or extending from rough ER

Golgi apparatus
In the cytoplasm near the nucleus and ER, usually positioned between the ER and the cell surface.

Lysosome
Scattered within the cytoplasm, separate from the nucleus and other membrane-bound organelles.

Peroxisome
Located in the cytoplasm, often near the ER and mitochondria.

Nucleus
Usually near the center of the cell, surrounded by cytoplasm.
Contains the cell’s DNA.

Nucleus( Light )

Nucleolus
Inside the nucleus, usually appearing as a dense region within the nuclear interior.

Nuclueous ( light )

Nuclear membrane/envelope
Immediately surrounding the nucleus, forming its outer boundary and separating it from the cytoplasm.

Nuclear pore
Embedded within the nuclear membrane, appearing as small openings/structures that pass through the nuclear envelope.
Light microscope
A microscope that uses visible light and glass lenses to magnify cells and tissues so they can be viewed.

What is seeable in a light microscope compared to electron mircoscope?
Cell membrane
Nucleus
Nucleolus

What is visible in an electron microscope?
Much finer cellular structures, including ribosomes, ER, Golgi, lysosomes, peroxisomes, nuclear pores, etc.
