Where are tropical rainforests located?

Tropical rainforests are primarily located near the equator, between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn

2

Why are tropical rainforests located on the equator?

Tropical rainforests are found near the equator because this area gets a lot of sunlight and rain all year round. The sun heats the land and water, causing warm, moist air to rise. As this air cools, it forms clouds and brings heavy rain, creating the perfect conditions for rainforests to grow.

Explain two ways in which Indigenous people have adapted to survive in a rainforest environment

One way Indigenous people have adapted to survive in the rainforest environment is by building large circular houses called shabonos. For example, this has helped the Yanomami tribe adapt because the location where they have built the shabonos helps with social gatherings, cooking and cleaning. In addition, this helps them always know their neighbourhood layout, meaning they could signal for any danger or invasion.

Another way is by building strong connections with neighbouring tribes. Although this might cause some loss in distinctive traditions, they would have the support and help from the neighbouring tribes. For example, the Pygmy communities often establish relationships with nearby farming groups. These relationships involve exchanging goods and resources. While these interactions may lead to some loss of distinctive traditions, they provide the Pygmy communities with essential support, reduce conflicts, and promote the sharing of resources and food.

Another adaptation is that tribes would hunt animals to have a source of food and use these sources from around the rainforests to make weapons for self-defence and tribal attacks. This adaptation has been created through living in rainforests so they can survive.

Give me some examples of what causes deforestation

Cattle ranchers (farms)

Mining

Road building

Population growth (a higher population leads to a demand for more housing)

Plantations

Why is the rate of deforestation higher in some countries than others?

The rate of deforestation might be higher in some countries than in others due to development. If a developing country has a lower GDP, this means that it needs to invest in deforestation and cut down trees to try and start increase the country’s GDP. Cutting down trees will help them improve infrastructure, which would lead to a greater economy and increase their development. Places like Brazil and Indonesia have a lower GDP, which means by them engaging in deforestation it allows they to boost their economy.

Why do country deforestation?

  • Space for animal and food produce (cattle ranchers), allows more animals to be farmed and then killed for food. Economic increase

  • For buildings and infrastructure for the population

How have animals adapted to living in the Mariana Trench?

One way animals have adapted is they have over the years changed their function of the fins to use them as feeet instead to navigate and swim. This helps animals because they can move around the land either to escape predators of search for food

Another way is that they release luminicent ink. This helps the animals to survive because without the light from the inks animals woildn’t be able to see and locate in the dark environment

What are some coral reef threats?

Humans - since carbon emissions are so high, coral reefs take in more C0². This causes coral bleaching which means corals loose their colour and die. (CO² remove algae)

Coral bleaching which means the algae that corals depend on for rood and colour die due to climate change and hot water

Ocean acidification (makes ocean too acidic)
