Cavity classifications
Class I cavity
cavities are located in the pits and fissures of teeth, primarily affecting the occlusal surfaces of molars and premolars.
Class II cavity
cavities that occur in the interproximal surfaces of posterior teeth, affecting the mesial or distal surfaces of molars and premolars.
Class III cavity
cavities that develop on the interproximal surfaces of anterior teeth, affecting the mesial or distal surfaces of incisors and canines.
Class IV cavity
cavities that affect the interproximal surfaces of anterior teeth, specifically involving the incisal edge of incisors and canines.
Class V cavity
cavities that occur on the gingival third of the facial or lingual surfaces of anterior and posterior teeth.
